Polyurethane (PU) drive wheels are the core transmission components of electric material handling equipment, such as reach trucks, counterbalance forklifts, and VNA (Very Narrow Aisle) trucks. Compared to rubber or nylon wheels, PU wheels offer an exceptional balance between load capacity, wear resistance, and floor protection.

Core Material: Polyurethane Elastomer
Common Systems: Typically formulated using NDI (Vulkollan®) systems. High-end products prioritize NDI due to its extremely low heat build-up and superior resilience, which effectively prevents delamination caused by internal overheating during high-speed operation.
Hardness Range: Generally maintained between Shore A 90-95. This specific hardness ensures sufficient load support and low rolling resistance while maintaining necessary traction.
Key Structural Design
Wheel Hub: Manufactured from high-strength cast iron, cast steel, or forged steel. To maximize the bonding strength between the PU layer and the metal, the hub surface undergoes shot blasting and is treated with a specialized bonding agent.
Tread: The PU layer is cast onto the hub through a specialized molding process.
Keyway and Mounting Holes: The center of the drive wheel features a precision-machined keyway or bolt hole pattern to ensure a tight connection with the motor drive shaft for stable torque transmission.
Core Advantages
1. High Load Capacity: At the same dimensions, polyurethane’s load-bearing capacity is 2–3 times that of rubber, allowing it to support heavy-duty forklifts under full load.
2. Low Rolling Resistance: Lower energy consumption means improved battery efficiency and extended operating hours per charge for electric forklifts.
3. Floor Protection: Non-marking properties ensure that no black brake marks are left on factory floors, particularly light-colored epoxy coatings.
4. Oil and Chemical Resistance: Highly stable in environments with hydraulic oil leaks or industrial cleaners, resisting the swelling or degradation common in rubber.

Application Scenarios
Warehousing & Logistics: High-frequency, fast-paced automated warehouses.
Cold Storage: Requires specialized low-temperature PU formulas to prevent the tread from becoming brittle or losing traction.
Semiconductor/Electronics: Integrated with ESD (Anti-static) materials to prevent friction-induced static from damaging sensitive components.
Heavy Manufacturing: High-performance solutions for AGVs or heavy-duty forklifts requiring superior tear and abrasion resistance.
